As you know, Lucy has been laying some pretty odd eggs. She's getting near the end of her reproductive stage even though she is only 4-1/2 years old. She's not any purebred - just the last one left of six chicks that I bought at Tractor Supply that many years ago.
After laying the little eggs, she plopped out this one:
It was pure white and heavy, but the shell felt like fine grit sandpaper! I checked her butt to make sure she wasn't scratched or bleeding. She wasn't, but I bet she felt that one coming out!
Here it is next to one of Lavern's eggs:
Pretty soon she will stop laying eggs all-together. She's always been a good girl - she deserves a nice long retirement!
Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....
