Chicken hawk

That darn chicken hawk has been hanging around here a little too often. Below you can see him fly to the right of that big pine tree which is across the road from us. He can see right over our house and watch the pen. This may be the one that went after one of the girls earlier.

Charlie keeps making warning calls. I will probably have to keep staying with them while they are in the yard until that hawk realizes he isn't going to get chicken for dinner! Hawks are fast, silent and deadly.

The are a protected species here in the United States. I can't legally kill them, but I can sure make life difficult for it.

They are carnivores and they take every opportunity they can find to eat. They consume other birds, reptiles, and small mammals. About 85% of their diet comes from rodent populations.
