Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....
It's just cold here. Too cold. My Ladies are molting, so the eggs I do get each day, if any, are precious. Checked them late and the two I got were frozen and cracked. Never got over 10 degrees today.
ReplyDeleteBrrr. Your hens are using energy to grow feathers back. Try giving them some cooled off cooked oatmeal along with extra protein. I do that with the morning feed and again about 3 pm. Not too much, but digesting it will keep them warm.My rooster is molting, too, and one of the hens looks ready. Supposed to be in the 20's tonight here with 50 mph wind gusts.. Winter has arrived early. Filled the coop with lots and lots of hay and put more in between the studs and around the window frames. Keeps out the drafts. With only about 9 1/2 hours of daylight -not too many eggs either. Keep warm and good luck with the girls!
