How the hell do you get rid of that "Cortana" thingy that keeps popping up???? And why do my news web sites take sooooo long to load - I get a white, blank screen with grey stripes on the top and bottom before it finally loads! (Even my Kindle isn't working right. Won't show comments on WZ, BB and IOTW - Agrrrrrrrrr)!
Upgraded internet service through the cable company - they were here Saturday with a new super-duper modem - supposed to be super lightning fast. Ha-Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I'm grumpy as hell. And getting too old for this cr@p.....)
:o(
I feel your pain. There is no apparent rhyme nor reason for this cyber carry on. There are not a lot of extra goodies loaded onto my laptop, but occasionally during my chats with my daughter in Georgia, the whole screen goes ballistic.
ReplyDeleteIf Windows were a car they would be recalled as completely useless. Where is Ralph Nader when you need him?
Ralph Nader would have Windows 10 outlawed for sure, Granny!
DeleteDear Grumpy, Got a new lap top here, Yay! Waited 10 years, it was time... have Windows 7 with Windows 10 capability, hope I never have to go to 10. Everyone seems to struggle with 10. Sincerely, Grumpy II
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting a new one to play with, Brig! Never, ever do an upgrade to 10 - EVER! Don't want you to grumpy!
DeleteWindows 10 is bad, for sure. I have stuff running in the background that I can't locate to uninstall. They sneak stuff in when they update, and you can't find them. They slow mine down, and I get so darned mad!
ReplyDeleteThat's what happened when I did the restore - STUFF was loaded on that wasn't there before!!!! I. Hate. Bill. Gates. Grrrrr!
Deleteall of you get your geek to install windows 7 and uninstall windows 10.
ReplyDeletewe did it.
I'll have to ask around and see if there is anyone up here that can to that for me - thanks!
DeleteI had my most recent computer built for me, and the gurus who did it said not to get Windows 10. Instead, they installed Windows 7Pro for me, and it's worked like a charm for three years now. Dump 10 and do a 7 reinstall and you should be good to go.
ReplyDeleteAnd your files are around. I accidentlly deleted 400 photos from my SD card, and got them all back with a program I got off the web -- it was easy as pie. Just don't format anything. If I'd formatted my camera cards, the photos would have been gone.
All my photos went into a "cloud" ? When I reinstalled the program that came with my Sony camera, I found them in there - didn't even know I put them there - I thought they were on the hard drive -
DeleteI bought a 2T USB backup drive a year or so ago, and I keep all my important stuff on it, with short cuts for the stuff I use all the time to the desktop. I'm going to keep an eye open to an opportunity to do a reinstall.
ReplyDeleteI've not met anyone who likes Win 10!!!
I had put pics from last year on one of those "sticks". Gonna do the same for the ones this year - didn't know about that 'Cloud" thing - don't rust it!
