Brrrrr! This is how cold it was when I let the gang out yesterday morning:
Then it started to snow:
Snow squalls came through most of the morning and early afternoon:

It was just too cold - I had to put a 100 bulb in the coop to keep the chill off:
Wilma and Betty didn't know what to make of it. Charlie and Maude just turned around and faced the back wall.
They are all buttoned up for the night!
Made soup today - it was a good day for it!
At 8 PM (Thursday night) the temp is 5 degrees above zero. The wind in blowing hard and I don't even want to know what the wind chill is.'Hope the cold snap doesn't last too long.....
Nine degrees plus a slight wind chill here as I read this at 5:20 am.
ReplyDeleteIt was zero here this early AM, gorges - warmed up to 11 degrees this afternoon. Thankfully not too windy! :o)
Delete+8 yesterday a.m. Warmed up to 20 for a high, +10 last night, +10 still this a.m. - s'posed to reach +13 for a high today, and down to -5 tonight. That's North Central WA State, y'all.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had chickens, sometimes one of their combs would freeze. It'd turn black and eventually fall off. But a new one would grow back! Scary the first time you see that happen...YIKES!!
Charlie's wattles usually freeze - you can notice one side is longer than the other. He has a strawberry comb, so that is usually OK. So far Wilma and Betty haven't lost part of theirs! Have the light bulb on in the coop again tonight. Supposed to warmup tomorrow afternoon here.
DeleteI looked at the photo of the chicken coop, and I see a sad lack of Christmas decorations. Hmm. And where is the chicken coop chimney so the gang can hang their stockings? And then I got a mental image of chicken feet stockings and cracked myself up.
ReplyDelete16.1 F in Philly this morning as I add air to my wife's tires to make the pressure monitor go off. (at those temperatures, and even though I bought the PVC air hose, the air hose has all the flexibility of a steel spring)
I'll hang a wreath on the coop this weekend. Charlie would probably love the stockings - he hates to get his feet cold!
