Now there are two....

...... Laverne passed quietly late yesterday morning.

I'm going to miss her.

After we buried her, I power-washed and disinfected the coop, the pen and the run. I usually do this in October and again in the Spring, but now was a good time.

When it was dry, all fresh shavings, straw and hay was put down.

Charlie and Maude didn't even wait until I was finished!

All clean! It actually smells good in there!

I'll order six new baby chicks in the Spring.

:o)

    1. I always tried to, Glenn. Sometimes I made mistakes but thankfully they usually survived them!

  3. I can't believe I have tears in my eyes over a chicken.

    1. Thanks, Lisa. It's so hard to think of them as just silly chickens as they all have different personalities. You will enjoy having and watching them!

  8. Chickenmom, I'm sorry to hear this. It sounds like her last day was spent with her friends, though.

We get attached to our pets no matter what they are.

    1. Thanks, Borepatch. Maude somehow knew she was going. She kept very close to her even though they would peck at one another everyday.

  9. Have been watching your Laverne now for a while... Sorry she won't be in the future with us, except in memory (and pictures, lots of pictures!).

I am sitting here with my 15 1/2 year old (big) Spaniel laying on my feet... He is deaf, but can still see really well. Lots of other problems and one day he will teach me that I need to say goodbye.

Sorry for your loss, Chicken Mom.

Still reading, although commenting less because of chores. Lots of us out here I am sure.

    1. I have loads of pictures of the gang. Thankfully the camera is digital and not film - I'd be broke! It's never easy to say goodbye to a pet, especially a dog. Give him a special treat today for me!

  10. Just now reading about Laverne flying away...
Gently and peacefully for a chicken...
    So sad for you.

Spring will bring excitement to Charley and Maude and the saga will continue!

  11. So sorry for your loss of Laverne. People that don't know what great pets chickens can be, would not understand the loss. I do.
Spring will come again, along with a new batch to raise.

    1. Too late to order new chicks now - our Winters are harsh. They wouldn't survive. I am SO looking forward to Spring. Renewal time! :o)
