Yup! It was.......

.......COLD !!!!!

I didn't let the gang out of the coop until the afternoon. The wind had died down (finally!).
They walked around for a bit in the pen and scratched for some rice that I threw in there for them to find in the piles of hay. I had to replace their frozen water 4 times and again when I locked the coop up for the night. It was not fun bundling up and going outside!

There is going to be a lot of poopsies to clean up tomorrow, that's for sure!

This is only how much it warmed up when came back in for the last time yesterday:

This is our weather report for today:

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow... sleet and freezing rain... which is in
effect from 9 am Monday to 2 am EST Tuesday.

* Timing... snow will begin by late morning mid morning Monday and
continue through the day. The snow will mix with sleet and then
change to freezing rain Monday evening. A prolonged period of
freezing rain is expected before an eventual changeover to rain
  by Tuesday morning.

Early morning temperatures will be very cold, in the single
digits and teens in most locations. They are expected to rise
into the 30s during the afternoon and remain steady or continue
  to rise Monday night.

* Main impact... the combination of snow... sleet and freezing rain
will make travel hazardous. 2 to 4 inches of snow and around
0.25 inches of ice are possible in the advisory area.

 Yuck!!

  2. We had freezing drinking water too back then. Hubby made a wooden box and attached an engine block heater inside under the top and set the watering fountain on top of the box with the cord coming thru fence. The hens never bothered with the cord, and the water stayed luke warm and never froze.

    1. I'm just glad the coop isn't too far from the house. Oh, well - at least it gets me out of the house and in the fresh air! Can't wait for Spring! :o)

  3. I've heard of leaving snow for the birds to peck at when water freezes. Have you ever tried it?

    1. Yes, Gorges! I don't take all the snow out of the run just in case they need a drink. Laverne likes to peck at it and when Sophia and Maude saw her, they did too!
