Saturday Night Doo-Wop

The Rays!

"Silhouettes"

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut
Took a walk and passed your house
Late last night
All the shades were pulled and drawn
Way down tight
From within, a dim light cast
Two silhouettes on the shade
Oh, what a lovely couple they ma-ade
Put his arms around your waist
Held you tight
Kisses I could almost taste
In the night
Wondered why I'm not the guy
Whose silhouette's on the shade
I couldn't hide the tears in my eye-eyes
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
[Instrumental Interlude]
Lost control and rang your bell
I was sore
Let me in or else I'll beat
Down your door
When two strangers who had been
Two silhouettes on the shade
Said to my shock
Your on the wrong blo-ock
Rushed down to your house with wings
On my feet
Loved you like I never loved
You my sweet
Vowed that you and I would be
Two silhouettes on the shade
All of our days
Two silhouettes on the sha-ade
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
Two silhouettes on the shade
Silhouettes

  1. I'll be ding-donged! I always thought the title of this old goody was "Two silhouettes on the shade."
I love it when you post the lyrics to these gems.

    4. ChickenMom, you mean you sing them wrong like "Ain't no Woman like the One Eyed Got??"

What the heck is a One Eyed Got anyway??

(I stole that from Dave Barry, by the way, but dang, that is what *I* thought Four Tops were singing about too.)

      Fair Winds,

    5. Totally ashamed to admit how many I got wrong! Don't know how kids today understand 'their' music- sounds like all of the singers(?) are sitting on a picket fence. Love Dave Barry, by the way!

  2. Please tell me what car that is. Otherwise I will be searching for even more hours. It is beautiful.
    And a great song.

    2. I thought so too but I finally found it. 1940 Buick.
Now I won't be up forever looking. They sure did a nice job with it.

  4. My Hubby thinks it might be a '48 or '49 Olds, but not sure.
Didn't the old Plymouths have a ship for a hood ornament? The pic is too small for my eyes to tell.

  5. Yeah-my Dad a a Plymouth with the ship. Glad you found it! The best hood ornament was the Indian on the Pontiac.

  6. 1940 Buick. See link above to Hemmings.
And, yes the Plymouth had a ship hood ornament but please don't ask what years.

    1. No "port holes" on the side of the hood tho. When did they begin adding those?

  7. I had to look. Found a neat article with some beautiful pictures of Plymouth hood ornaments.

    1. Very nice pictures of the ship! I can remember seeing them as a kid, as well as the (Chief) Pontiac on the Pontiac.

  8. First year for portholes was 1948.

    Interesting story.
It you look close at the photo in the Hemmings link you can see some square "vent" thingies just below the hood. Perhaps Buick was predisposed to little vents?
