Today's funny :o)

:o)

Wasn't home for ....

.... most of the day yesterday. Hubby and I had a lot of errands to run. Anywhoo, the gang wasn't out in the yard at all. I felt guilty so I gave them a big handful of corn. That's Charlie making all the noise.

Laverne ( the old one with the floppy comb) still pecks at poor Maude.

Mr. "get up and feed me - it's three o'clock in the morning already" is losing a lot of feathers. The long ones on his tail will be the last to go. I've found a lot of his wing feathers in the coop. Seems he takes longer to molt than the girls.

The tomatoes are getting ready to pick:

Decided to keep the squash in the old tub. The rabbits don't seem to bother them in there:

One lone sunflower  popped up in there, too!

Bath time!

During this hot weather it's important to keep our feathered friends clean and hydrated.

Here are some great ideas for your backyard:

Why do birds need a bath?

How many crackers can you eat without having a drink? Seed eaters, such as greenfinches, have dry meals and desperately need a drink to wash them down.
In fact, most small birds need to drink at least twice a day so being able to rely on a supply in your garden can make a big difference.
Birds need water for drinking and their feathery ablutions too - bathing and preening are essential to keep feathers in good condition.

Anything that holds water will do!

But it seems not only boids like to bathe!

Dang deer...

.... have been hanging around again.

Usually there are two does and two fawns. Only the does came out of the woods this time.

She hears me walking towards her....

.... and takes off for the woods:

The flash went off on the camera - you can see the reflection in her eyes!

They have been bedding down by the swamp lately.  At least we know that if we see
the deer, mamma bear isn't around.

Did you ever see...

.... a Hairy Frogfish?

The hairy frogfish can grow to about 10 inches in length. These fish can be a variety of colors, from the orange shown her eto yellow, green gray or brown. They have blotches or stripes that may be solid black in color. They also have lines that extend from their eye.
This frogfish has many slender appendages extending from its skin. These can be used to help it blend in with its surroundings.

These fish are found in rocky or reef areas and also on sandy bottoms and weedy estuaries in the Western Atlantic Ocean from New Jersey to Brazil, and in the Indo-Pacific Ocean from the Red Sea and eastern coast of Africa to the Hawaiian Islands, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

This is a relatively shallow-water species that is found at water depths of about 130 feet. It is a bottom-dweller, where it waits for prey, which it attracts with a "lure."

Frogfish feed on small fish. The hairy frogfish has a modified spine on top of its head that acts as a lure to draw in curious fish. The frogfish's prey gets too close and then gets gulped down.

These fish reproduce through laying eggs, which are attached within a mucus veil or raft.

Not a very cute little feller, is he?
