General Information

The Red-capped Manakin is a species of bird in the Pipridae family.
Physical Description

These are compact forest birds. The males are typically brightly colored, although the females of most species are duller and usually green-plumaged.
Diet

Manakins feed on small fruits, berries, and insects.
Habitat

It is found in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
Reproduction

The Manakin species have spectacular lek rituals where the male does an elaborate dance making buzzing, snapping, and other sounds with their wings to impress the female Manakin. Nest building and incubation lasts 18-21 days, and the female takes care of the young alone because Manakins do not form stable pairs. The normal clutch is two eggs.
