Can anyone explain these formations?
Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....
I think it means there's a lot of wind higher up. Often, that wind comes to ground level a few hours later. That's why the old saying, "Mare's tails and mackerel scales make tall ships carry low sails."
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gorges - never heard that expression before!
DeleteGorges - and Chickenmom - I have never heard that before, in all my years of sailing... And being around sailors. But it does, in fact, make sense. I was going to post 'Mackerel sky', which is what those first few pictures are. The clouds come about by being 'tumbled' by cross winds, I believe - but in essence, an unstable pattern 'up high'.
ReplyDeleteFair Winds,

Thanks ,Cap'n Jan! The last ones remind of the tire treads on the backhoe!
