Another......

... tree comes down. This one had two trunks growing out of one base. This was on Wednesday:

Oops!

Rotten inside:

..... and yesterday he took the other trunk down:

This side was rotten, too:

This is good wood - It will be used for 2020:

The heat and humidity is getting unbearable:

  1. Forked trees always go over in a storm eventually anyway.

    1. It will be split, stacked and covered down by the stone wall. It's probably the last tree he takes down (I hope)!

  4. Chickens - run an extension cord out to the coop for a fan or maybe a battery powered fan.

  5. About that wood. Split it. ALL of it. Even the smaller pieces.

I brought in a bunch of logs that were pretty big, but small enough to fit comfortably in my fireplace and burn all night long. What I didn't notice was the tiny hole in the heartwood on one end.

Turns out that section of log held an entire carpenter ant nest. The log got nice and toasty sitting next to the fireplace and the whole nest woke up from its winter sleep. The next morning I woke up and my entire house was full of those little buggers.

  6. That happened to us the first year we were here - Hubby now stacks the split wood outside under a tarp and up on pallets. Those ants were horrible! Yuck!! And it took a while to get rid of them, too!
