Look how big...

.... Benji is getting!

I had video of him walking - he looks like a penguin - but my laptop is hiding it somewhere - will have to make another one!

Wilma still hates him and attacks EVERY chance she gets.

The weather is wacky here in Coopville. Had to turn the heat on last week to get the chill out of house. (Hubby didn't want to burn wood this early!) Yesterday we had the A/C on! The trees are starting to lose their leaves....

.... and we're still getting cucumbers!

The girls dug a creator to take their dust baths!

Watched my neighbors cat for a few days... his name is "Fat David". ... wonder why?  LOL!

A whale of a day

Found an old film from the 1940's about whaling - it's fascinating!

An excellent article on the history and modern day whaling can be found here:

Call me Ishmael......

If you have never read the classic Moby Dick, you can read it here:

a

Still trying....

.... to get Benji to fit in with the girls. So EVERY day I let him out his cage....

... and shut the coop door. I don't want him running in and hiding in one of the nesting boxes.

As soon as Wilma sees him, she attacks! At least he gets his daily exercise running away from her.

After a bit, I let him back in his cage. She really doesn't do any damage to him - just scares him so he hides. I hold him and check him over every day to make sure he has no peck marks on him.  He's really a sweet bird. Loves to sit on my lap and be petted.

Each day I make sure his time out with the others gets longer and longer. Hopefully, I can take that cage out of the pen soon!

The damn deer are always around, too!

Friday Night Steam

It may be Friday the 13th, but it's a lucky day for us!

Big Boy 4014!!!

Source: Douglas Hildebrandt

As part of Union Pacific's celebration of the transcontinental railroad being finished, they are sending Big Boy to tour across the system. In this video, we'll start off in Mason City, Iowa, and chase it all the way to Saint Paul, MN. We'll see Big Boy in many different places as it traverses the various countrysides, farms, and towns along the way. In Manly, Iowa, the Iowa Northern Railroad staged its E units for a unique side by side shot with Big Boy as it pulled up. Both of these units were built in 1941, and mere months apart! Another highlight of this chase includes some AMAZING sounds of Big Boy working hard up hill at Castle Rock, MN. Every run by was amazing, and the classic steam engine was a sight to be seen.
