Hubby has been very busy cutting down more trees. None of the wood goes to waste.

From one of the smaller trees. |

This is all seasoned and ready to use. |

Rows and rows of lovely wood! |

He took this tree down on Thursday. |
When we bought this house and property almost four years ago, it had been on the market for a long time. No one else wanted it because it was mostly woods. We snapped it up right away because of all the trees. We knew we could burn wood and not use expensive heating oil. Cannot tell you how many thousands and thousands of dollars we have saved. If you buy land, make sure it has plenty of trees!
What kind of trees do you have?
ReplyDeleteI mentioned our mangroves, we also have a variety of palms, silver buttonwood (can be either a shrub of small tree) and some kind of southern maple thing I am not sure of. Small property so not much room for trees.

Maple, cherry, lots of oak, hickory, elm, a few birch but way back where we don't go very much because of the snakes. We lost a couple of dogwoods during the last two hurricanes. And some small firs - not many. Rocks grow really good here, too!
DeleteThat cherry, oak and hickory are all great cooking and smoking wood. Makes me hungry just typing that.
DeleteI will admit I have never had smoked snake. And don't think I will try it.

They do smell good when they burn - but also makes for a lot of dust in the winter. Nothing you can do about it, either. We bought a very high efficiency wood burning stove insert and which is downstairs in the rec room, but the dust always creeps it way upstairs. Oh, well - keeps me busy. Snakes are common up here. That's why we always wear boots. No sneakers or sandals ever. Ticks galore because of all the deer and turkey. We'll never go hungry! I did have snake once a few years ago. It tasted like chicken. Had alligator, too. It was awful!
