Yup! We have 'em here!
Hubby was using the wood splitter when he saw the neighbor's dog run over here. He looked up and saw one of the cubs being chased up the tree. Mamma bear was right there! Hubby came back to the house to warn me because the gang was out in the yard. When I ran out with the camera, Charlie and the girls were under the deck already. Chickenmom was chicken and stayed on the deck!
Seeing them was a good reminder for us to always be alert. Usually they just wander through and head for the woods in the back and don't bother us. But they can run faster than we do!

I once sat on my brother's deck, drinking coffee and watching a bear up a tree right across the driveway. But that was in the middle of the northern Minnesota woods. Sure didn't expect to see bears in Joisey! Love the way Mama snagged her kid out of that tree. :)

DeleteThe male bears don't seem to bother anyone too much, but watch out for a mamma bear!
We don't live in bear country in my county, but a young male passes through once in a while during dispersal.

DeleteYIKES!! There are bears in NC WA, but not in our neck. Cougars have been spotted just out of town. Mostly we have coyotes, huge owls and osprey.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how the gang knew to run for cover when they spotted the danger. I bet they held perfectly still and quiet while watching too. (Chickenmom's camera seemed a bit shaky tho...just sayin'.)
Charlie always watches out for his girls, even though there are only two left! Shaky camera? Heh! Maybe it was windy? LOL! :o)
