Hubby decided to take this one down yesterday - it had two trunks:
Each one went in a different direction:
Both were covered in these funny knotty looking thingies:
Anyone out there know what causes the bark to look like this?
Well anyway, all the noise didn't bother Charlie and the girls.......
We'll have more firewood for next year and that is a good thing!
Firewood was the first thing I thought of. I think your man is a lumberjack at heart.
ReplyDeleteCan never have too much firewood, c.w. - keeps us nice and warm - plus youngest son heats his house with our wood, too!
ReplyDeleteIt's a burl: "a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner." There's many a roadside shop in the Midwest where those get turned into bowls, mainly from walnut trees.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, Rev. Paul. I did do a search on them and those bowls are expensive! Now if I only had a lathe...... :0)
DeleteWait just a darn minute. Where's your snow? We're covered here in Minnesota and I would expect you to be also. Are you giving us old pictures?
ReplyDeleteHa-ha! We are supposed to get some snow tomorrow night! The first snowfall is always the best. Looked at the weather forecast in your neck of the woods - don't put that snow shovel away just yet! :o)
