Have you ever seen one?
Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....

I've seen many. Some were ancient. Not sure if its still there but over thirty years ago the State of Washington had one on display at SEATAC airport and if I'm not mistaken it was labeled as four hundred years old.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been awesome to see! I was reading that they usually told the history of the owner's ancestoral clan and that each carved figure had a special meaning and place in the story of the totem. Would love to see one being carved!
DeleteSeen lots of them, one of the 'advantages' of going to high school in Alaska! They are one of the oldest forms of art known and it takes quite a keen eye to interpret them.
ReplyDelete@Stephen - been a while since I was at SeaTac so don't know if the one you referred to is still there but very likely since Alaska Airlines operates out of there..............
Alaska has ALWAYS been my dream destination - you are VERY luck to have lived there, Anon! To be surrounded by those majestic mountains - oh, my!
