Not just an ordinary cinder block...

You can make a flower planter with them:

Some "yard art":

Fence posts:

Grow some veggies ( I use them to plant my potatoes):

A cool looking bench:

 A neat firewood holder:

A bookcase

And even stairs!

What have you ever used them for?

:o)

  1. I painted some of the square ones in black and white, then staggered them to make a nifty room divider and book shelf. Handy little units, use your imagination and go wild.

    1. Good thinking, P.P.! The blocks would keep everything together and would make it easy to just reach in and turn over the "goodies" with a rake!

  5. Lots of good ideas, I have used some of those already, the wood pile and shelving come to mind.

Now, I am going to get fussy here. Pretty sure those are concrete blocks. Although "cinder block" is a common term for concrete blocks.

It is very hard to find real cinder blocks anymore.
Cinder blocks were made with fly ash and or ground clinkers as a aggregate. They, the cinder blocks were lighter weight, softer and had less strength than concrete blocks, cheaper too.
I think that when most cement kilns were coal fired, the block manufacturers found a use for the byproducts that normally would have been used as landfill.

    1. You are right Jon. People put them on the side of the road just to get rid of them. I don't think we have ever bought any!
