Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....

Toys from the past
Ever wonder what Great Grandma and Grandpa played with?
We used to cut pictures out of magazines and make clothes for them. When we were lucky enough, Mom would buy a real paper doll book!Dover Publications still sells them. :o) http://store.doverpublications.com/by-subject-paper-dolls.html
Brings back some memories... I had a tea-set that one of my 'well to do' (middle class, actually!) gave me. It was actual china from, I believe but am not sure Royal Doulton. Teacups, saucers, plates, etc., plus teapot sugar and creamer. Anyroad, I played with those dishes endlessly, with my working Mumma taking the time to set and play with me. Lovely times, and great memories of the past! Train set! Yes, I also had a train set (really). Sadly my toys were given to younger cousins who did not have the same 'training' in taking care of things that I did. My Lionel trainset in a box, left outside 'out of the rain' but outside. My tea-set smashed to bits! But the memories, I keep!!
I'm spending some of my time on the boat scanning old photographs, so come what may, I'll have them going forward. It is grand to live for the future, but to never forget the past.
I had a 'real' china play set too, complete with serving trays and lids for the teapot and sugar bowl! That gave way to toy horses (and cap guns)! Have no idea what happened to the tea set. My Grandmother had sent it to me for Christmas many, many years ago. Nice memories, Cap'n Jan...
You find some entertaining things to post.

DeleteMy mother told me about making paper dolls to play with. She grew up in the depression and they didn't have much.
