Ah, the M,K&T! My grandfather, Dad, and 2 uncle all worked for them. Dad was in the back shop and welded 'frogs' on the railroad. When somebody would ask him what he did. He would tell them he weld 'frogs' on the railroad. Invariable they would ask him what that was. Everyone would stop and listen as he explained that he would hunt around in the grass for a toad and then weld it to the rail. His story never changed. I was 35 when I saw a picture in the local paper of a guy in a rail-yard welding on that big metal guide that helps trains switch tracks. They called it a 'frog'! I cut the picture out, framed it and gave it to Dad for Father's Day one year. It gave him a chuckle.
