The true story of the Chicken Gun.Scientists at NASA built a gun specifically to launch standard 4 pound dead chickens at the windshields of airliners, military jets and the space shuttle, all traveling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.British engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high speed trains. Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....
When I was dealing with aircraft windshields the gun was located at Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tu;;ahoma, TN. Never got to see it though.

DeleteFrozen chickens is exactly how they test jet engines. They replicate the damage a goose will do to an engine when one is sucked into the engine.
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste of good dinners! You would think they would use something else instead. A goose flew into my car years ago - what a mess! Ugh!
