Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....

Hubby was bored....
....... so he took down part of a tree:
It was pretty rotten inside:
But most of it can be used to keep us warm in a year or two.
Be VERY careful about those 'rotten' tree pieces. I cut up a mostly dead tree and brought it into the house. some of the pieces were small enough that I didn't have to split them to fit them into my woodstove. One of those pieces had a small hole in the heartwood on either end.
That chunk of tree has about 10,000 carpenter ants living in it and hibernating for the winter. They got good and warm sitting next to the stove and swarmed my whole house for days.
...tell him we've got a big old cottonwood that needs to go...
ReplyDeleteA wee bit too big for Hubby to take down - those trees are humongous!
DeleteNo snow. That is a plus.
ReplyDeleteSupposed to get 6 inches of the white stuff tonight, BW... :o(
DeleteYou should save the hollow pieces and make bird houses!
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Gorges - will have to check his discard pile!!
