Palm trees

Our weather here in Joisey has been just miserable. Was just thinking how nice it would be to look out the window and see one of these:

Do YOU have palm trees in your yard???

Found a wonderful site where there is a ton of information on the different species of palm trees.
Stop by and take a look!  http://www.sunpalmtrees.com/

  1. Yes, we do have several different kinds of palms. If anyone ever goes to Miami Fairchild Tropical Garden is a must visit. Fantastic palm collection. There is a slide show here:

Fairchild has lots more so explore the website.
The U of Florida had a great collection at their Tropical research station near Homestead South of Miami. Not sure if it survived hurricane Andrew in1992. I got a tour back in the 70's.

  2. This is an interesting palm: http://www.florida-palm-trees.com/cuban-petticoat-palm-tree/
There is one at Fairchild. Very pretty.
    It likes 50's music.
(Sorry for bad joke, I couldn't help myself)

  3. The only palms here are in the Conservatory at Como Park, St. Paul. Many hours were spent there when I was younger, enjoying the topical trees and flowers.

  4. At risk of sounding pompous, the view from my balcony includes most of the palms pictured. Even the beach is only a short walk away.
However, I do not have seasonal changes, Chooks, or the lovely countryside you share with us.
You bring back a lot of happy memories of living in a temperate zone; for which I thank you very much.
Hang in there kid, Spring will arrive and the sap will flow, the Chooks will flourish and you will revive.

    1. I'm jealous, Granny! I like the 5th one - reminds me of a strutting turkey's feathers! Will be maple syrup time soon - the trees are already running where the woodpeckers have been pecking!

  5. I have never seen a palm tree in person. They look prehistoric and unnatural to me...

    1. I saw my first one when I went to Texas in the early 80's, Glen - they are huge!

  6. I do, in fact! As I sit here on my boat, I can look out and see palm trees (planted, not necessarily native, but thriving none-the-less). I am on the Texas Coast right now, just inside the ICW on the other side of Galveston Island.

Lovely place. Sadly, there is a lot of particulate in the air due to the refineries in Texas City, which gucks up everything (including lungs, and lots of health issues in Texas City...). It is surprising that those palms, which are really 'clean air' trees, thrive here regardless!

Here's hoping that our New President will dissolve some of that nasty bureaucracy at the EPA that has prevented the building of new refineries. They will be so very much better for all concerned. The old ones keep running because they are grandfathered in. But they are old and falling apart. There are valves in some of the areas that have Swastikas on them. Germany, remember, was one of the main producers of valves before the war... Those are very, very old valves. No matter how well built, nothing lasts forever...

Well. I went down that rathole didn't I? Sorry, but, I am staring at the palm tree just behind my boat and thinking about where we are...

Fair Winds my dear, and Following seas!

    1. So far President Trump is doing a lot of good - let's hope it continues to MAGA! That's near where I went to in Texas, a little place called Humble. Lawdy, it was sooo hot! Saw my first longhorn and oil wells along the way to there, too!
