Inside the mushrooms....

Posted pics  yesterday of some big, UGLY mushrooms found growing around Coopville.
This one started to get black spots on it

Flipped it over with the  rake and the outer portion of it cracked and peeled away:

These two have light tan spots and they have the texture of golf balls (or brains!):

I only had to touch them with the rake and they fell over:

Broke the first one up and this is what was inside:

It didn't smell and nothing came flying out of it, but the inside was the consistency of thick mud:

Hubby will bury them the next time he digs out a tree stump!

Just thought you might like to know what happened to 'em!

:o)

  1. A fungus amoung us? Burn them to destroy the spores, otherwise they will grow back.

  4. Just thought I would mention this. There are 7 kinds of mushrooms where I live. 5 taste awful and the other 2 that taste good are poisonous! figures don't it? not worth the risk. I get mine at the supermarket!

  5. We can get little mushrooms popping up here in super dry N Central WA too if it rains enough...which it seldom does. But west of the Cascade range in W. WA, it's pretty wet, and in the spring you can go out and pick Morel mushrooms, which are very good to eat.

  6. I don't know either, guess it's a study.
Everyone on "The Dark Side" - rain forest side of Wa knows what a morels look like, so they get picked to a fairthy-well. Very good sauteed in butter and garlic. AARRGGHH!! Almost worth a 3 hour drive over the mountains to get some. No, not quite...

    1. A three hour drive? Nope! A twenty minute drive to the grocery store is my limit! I know you can buy kits for growing them yourself at Home Depot.

    2. Why would you want to grow them at Home Depot? Hee Hee.
