A massive tree stump

Hubby is still trying to get rid of the stump left over from the tree he took down a while back.

There were so many rocks entwined with the tree roots. He couldn't use the chainsaw to
cut  them up, so he has to use the trusty axe,

He works on that old stump every day for a couple of hours!

Lots and lots of roots to get rid of before he can get under it with the backhoe.

Some leaves are starting to change a wee bit:

 Maude and Charlie.

Laverne hasn't come out of the coop for two days now. I put food, water and
her favorite treats in there for her, but she isn't eating or drinking.
She just wants to sleep. It will be soon....

  1. Sending prayers your way. Not so much for Laverne, for animals have a way of knowing better than we do, when it is time. But for you. And consider yourself hugged.

    1. Thanks, Vicki. She's not in any pain and still like to be petted, so Nature will just takes it's course. I just get so attached to them. Silly, they are only chickens, but they bring me a lot of joy and smiles.

    1. I'll miss her when she goes - she is a real character! Don't know if I should order new chicks or get some pullets from a local farm. Or wait until Spring to start all over. Decisions - ugh.

  4. If only he could have gotten Alan Ladd to help getting the stump out!

  5. There is no need to feel silly for being attached to our fine feathered friends. They are as capable of love and friendship as dogs or cats, and they WILL take a piece of you when they go.

As far as the stumps go - I got "triggered" when I saw your pics. (That's what we cool kids call a micro-aggression dontchya know. I shall look forward to an apology and generous financial compensation too, BTW). When I was a kid Pop would leave me the task of dealing with stumps and nothing short of road rage and TNT seemed to work with some of them. Sometimes I worked myself into a blind rage chopping at those damned things trying to get them out. Just the sight of them gives me PTSD!

On our second farm I directed the cat operator that was doing some earthwork - to take a pass down one side of the driveway and up the other. That monster ripped them %^&*'s out by the roots while I cackled like a maniac!

I am SO glad I don't have to deal with stumps anymore.

    1. We should have named this place "Stumpville" - have so darn many of 'em!
Hubby would be in heaven if we hat a little CAT! We'd have two acres of a level lawn!

  6. I am sorry to hear about Laverne, you are in my thoughts Chickenmom...I feel sad with you.

As with the beautiful changing of the leaves, Springtime will come and you will know what the right thing to do is at the right time...life just seems ro work like that. There is a season for all things.

I am glad to see you and your hubby are no longer "stumped". Thanks for sharing your journey and letting us be a part of it!

    1. Thank you so much, Lisa. I do seem to get attached to the silly critters. So glad that stump is OUT! Now the hole can be filled in and Hubby will plant some fall seed over it. Next year: Lawn!!! :o)
