Yesterday morning she didn't eat, but did go out into the yard with the rest of the gang. She then went back into the the pen and took a nap. When I went out later to give them all a treat, I picked her up and held her. She was gone 20 minutes later.
She was a good, gentle hen. I am going to miss her. A lot.
Sorry you lost your little friend. She trusted you to make her passing a loving one.

DeleteMy Hendrika died much the same way...slowed way down for 2 days, then hunkered down like she was napping, and just went to sleep. She was only 4 years old.

Thanks Barbara cat, Shirley was going to be five in March. I just get attached to the little critters - Charlie is the oldest now.

ReplyDeleteThank you, JMD. Laverne is going to miss her friend too. Last night she kept looking in the nesting boxes for her. Hopefully now she will be a little nicer to Maude and Sophia.

ReplyDeleteThank you, BW. Most of the farms around here have chickens, but they are not pets and only live for one or two years. They would laugh at me and my pampered flock. Always glad when you stop by for a visit!
