Mostly about my backyard chickens. (Boring, I know), but there are a lot of us out here. Mine are only kept as pampered pets. I could eat a neighbor's chicken, but not MINE. There may be a comment on current events only if I get riled up enough. And there will always be a cartoon or a joke to cheer us. I promise to try my very best to respond to comments. Now I have to figure out how this blogger thingy works....

The Bear Hunter
Remember the pic of the bear from yesterday? Terry (http://jterryt.blogspot.com/) sent me this about a REAL bear hunter:
I checked out the link you posted and found a mention of Thomas Clingman, known as the "Prince of Politicians". I did not know about him so I had to look him up. Interesting person from North Carolina, politician and Confederate General. I knew the name from walking to Clingman's Dome from Newfound Gap on the Appalachian Trail, It is the highest mountain in Tennessee. The peak is on the state line with NC and the Appalachian Trail crosses it.
Seems like all the brave and interesting men have been from the South. Part of the Appalachian Trail is right in back of us. It goes through Sunrise Mountain. When we first moved here, we hiked to the top of it and met quite a few people that were walking the length of the trail. They had some interesting stories to tell.

DeleteWhen I was a kid in the 60's, all the old folks had eaten bear, and would express an opinion on it's taste. That would never happen nowadays.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite popular in Jersey, CW. There is a bear hunt every year here. Hubby and I saw another big one yesterday crossing the road.
DeleteI have eaten bear meat...
ReplyDeleteI bet it doesn't taste like chicken! LOL :o)
