Danger! Will Robinson! Danger!

With all the snow on the ground, it is still light after 5pm. The other night I let the gang stay in the pen later than usual.

The crows were making a racket but I wasn't paying too much attention to them (NOT a good idea), when I went out to clean the pen.

I let them out in the yard while shoveling the day's poop deposit. All of a sudden Charlie gave a warning signal. Laverne and Shirley ran to the pen and into the coop. Charlie was squawking and flapping his wings and followed them.

The reason?

This:

That damn hawk flew right over the coop looking for a quick meal! Charlie saw him before I did.

I was surprised it was hunting so late in the day - the moon was high in the sky. Lesson learned - must be much more watchful of the skies.

    1. He must have been really hungry to fly so close while I was there.

    1. Lots and lots of them - you can hear them yipping at night. Had one run through the backyard a couple of weeks ago.

  3. Foxes? We have both here. Coyotes tend to get shot.
