Don't know what is going on with the chickens lately....


They were out of the pen and run most of the day just wandering around near the house (and not getting into any trouble). We decided to eat dinner early, so I rounded them up and put them back in while we ate. While doing the dishes, I didn't see them in the pen, so I went outside:

They weren't in the run

 

Or in the pen.

 

The gate was closed, too.

I opened the coop door - and there they were!

Don't know what made them hide in there during the day while there was still a couple of hours of sunlight left.

Hubby thinks noise from our neighbor's property scared them. It's being logged to clear some land for a barn, (those machines are awesome, by the way!) but Charlie and the girls are used to all the noise Hubby makes with his tractors and stuff. It's ALWAYS noisy here.

The local crows were squawking up a storm. Maybe the chicken hawks were circling around the pen. I looked up all around and didn't see or hear anything.

Or maybe they just wanted to take a nap?
