Decided to break open Lucy's funny shaped eggs to see what was inside"
No yolk!
Charlie walks over to take a look:
The girls weren't going to waste it - they ate everything, even the shell!
This is the other tiny one:
Again, no yolk, but this too was gone in a minute!
Can't wait to see what Lucy plops out next time!
Poor Lucy :((
ReplyDeleteAnd yet this morning she gave me a HUGE egg! I'll post it tomorrow!
DeleteIt's her change...I've had hens do this too. She'll stop laying completely soon.

Henapause! Maybe that is why she is getting so fat too. She's a good ol girl - no stew pot for her!
DeleteAfter my Hendrika went thru it and stopped laying, she grew fat and happy, never missing it a bit. 4 years later, she just hunkered down in a nest box and "flew away" for good. Nice hen.

I'm glad your Hendrika had a lot more years! It's hard not to get attached to the friendly ones. I lost my favorite, Evil Ethe during the Winter .I could even put silly costumes on her!
DeleteThe goldies I lost always seemed to die in the winter. The black ones, i.e. Hendrika, Henrieta (well loved fav's) -and other blacks lived well past their change of life...Henapause as you so aptly named it. The blacks were just stronger a breed, I guess.

A while back I had two black Wyandotte bantams - a rooster and a hen - She was broody 24/7 and he was not very friendly - always fighting . Gave them to a local farmer. Chicken show here next month - don't know what kind I'll bring home. There are just so many to choose from!
