More snow

We are supposed to get a major snowstorm today, tonight and Friday morning . That meant getting the coop ready for the cold winds, snow and temperatures below zero. Wind chills for tonight and Friday will be -11 to -12! It can get mighty cold here in Joisey!!!
   WINTER STORM WARNING.

VERY COLD TEMPERATURES AND LOW WIND CHILLS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN
THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING AND CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY
NIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING. THE COMBINATION OF COLD TEMPERATURES
AND BLUSTERY WINDS WILL LEAD TO WIND CHILL VALUES WELL BELOW ZERO,
POSSIBLY INTO THE MINUS TEENS, FOR A EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME
STARTING AS EARLY AS THURSDAY EVENING.

Fresh hay in the run & pen

The coop was filled with plenty of wood shavings and about 2 feet of fresh hay. That should keep them nice and cozy and free from drafts. They can take the bitter cold if there are no drafts. Of course I always give them more protein and extra food during the cold spells. With the weather being this cold, they will probably spend a lot of time in the coop. I'll have to check on them several times to make sure their waterer doesn't freeze.

We are well prepared for any storm, but the high winds will probably do a number on the electric - lots and lots of trees up here.

    1. It's 15 degrees outside and gettin' windy. Their water froze twice already today! Wish I could put them in the garage, but hubby says NO WAY! (meanie). They will be fine - I spoil them too much anyway! :0)
