Charlie

Remember when I mentioned that Charlie always builds a nest for the girls when I clean out the coop?

Well, I tried to catch him doing it - the pictures aren't too clear because I had the coop door only opened up a crack and I was hiding behind it with my camera.

That's Charlie walking in. He has to inspect the entire coop and he will not let the girls go inside until he's finished.

On the left you can see the nest in the corner. And it's always the same corner, by the nest boxes. Charlie is walking out and Lucy (on the right of Charlie) wants to go in.

There he is - just strutting and as proud as he can be!

When he is ALL done, he'll get "friendly" with one of the girls. Sometimes two of 'em!

Does anyone else have a rooster that does this? He also makes a purring sound while in there.
The hens purr when they are content. Little Nina did that all the time. Ethel does it more than Lucy.

Maybe it's the water up here................

  1. Charlie is a "home-builder," apparently.

  2. Just a thought, he's also a polygamist; maybe he could get a TV show!

    1. Charlie just loves the ladies - always stands on a rock wall looking over at the neighbors hoping her hens are out in the yard. For such a little guy he sure has a huge attitude!
